From Van Gogh to CSI and Under the Sea to Japanese Tea Ceremonies, the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce YouthQuest program is making this summer a “Passport to Adventure” for almost 900 K-8 youth.
Programming is underway at eight elementary school sites for children in K-5 offering curriculum from three to six weeks, with the middle school program “on the road.” Younger children are exploring outer space, the oceans, CSI YouthQuest-style, Hispanic culture south of the border and outdoor sports.
The elementary sites are Dye Road in Carman-Ainsworth, Rankin, Brownell in Flint, Freeman in Flint, Montague in Mt. Morris, Carter in Montrose, and the International Academy of Flint and New Standard charter schools.
Middle school students will “travel” inside Genesee County to experience canoeing, disc golf, kayaking, ice skating, and, depending on their special interest “club,” an introduction to piano and percussion, a Japanese Tea Ceremony, hands-on in the Fabrication Lab at Mott Community College and Physics, Chemistry and Molecular Biology at UM-Flint.
The middle school group will also tour the campuses of Baker College, Mott Community College, Kettering University, ITT Technological Institute, UM-Flint, Michigan State University and the University of Michigan Ann Arbor.
