YouthQuest offering sign-on bonus during Aug. 27 job fair

(FLINT, Mich. – Aug. 24, 2021) If you like working with youth and are looking for a job, save the date for Aug. 27. That’s when YouthQuest will host a job fair to fill immediate part-time openings supporting its afterschool enrichment program.

Anyone hired during the in-person event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Flint & Genesee Group (519 S. Saginaw St., Flint), will receive a $250 sign-on bonus after completing 90 days on the job.

The program aims to fill two types of positions, which include learning guides (or frontline staff) and certified learning guides (or certified teachers).

The primary responsibility of these positions is to supervise students and provide learning support and guidance. Employees assist with the development and implementation of education plans as well as identify and solve issues relating to the educational, social and emotional development of students.

Learning guides and certified learning guides work 18 hours a week over the course of four days, Monday through Thursday.  The starting rate for learning guides is $13/hour, with a raise to $14/hour after one year. For certified learning guides, the pay rate is $16.50.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have at minimum a high school diploma and be able to pass a criminal background check.

Applicants should be committed to developing meaningful relationships with students and providing constructive feedback to help them grow and improve. You must have strong communication skills, as you will be expected to interact with peers, parents, students and educational authorities. The ideal candidate will be understanding, patient and attentive to student needs.

Now in its 11th year, YouthQuest is a program of Flint & Genesee Education & Talent. It offers engaging activities and services that encourage academic achievement; physical fitness; the exploration of science, technology, engineering, arts and math; the development of leadership and other important life skills; and more.
