YouthQuest Highlights June 2021

Retreat

With program transitioning from the school year to summer session, YouthQuest staff took some time for self-care during a much-needed staff retreat to Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island. During the three days, employees had the chance to connect with each other while taking part in excursions such as horseback riding and carriage rides.

BBQing

YouthQuest staff at Freeman Elementary hosted a virtual BBQ event to celebrate the end of the year. Families received a Famous Dave’s dinner delivered to their house and enjoyed the meal while reflecting on the year. The students then chose their favorite games over the past year to play in the virtual setting. Finally, families were given information on summer activities for YouthQuest.

Start on the Right Foot

To start off each June session with a wellness focus, staff at Brownell STEM Academy led students through either yoga or an exercise routine for the first 20 minutes of programming. These activities got students up and moving after day school and kept their blood flowing before participating in afterschool activities.

Growing Up

Students at Eisenhower Elementary worked with Farmer Erin to plant fruits and vegetables in the school’s community garden. During the summer, students will be able to watch the plants grow and will use the bounty to cook healthy and delicious dishes.

YouthQuest is made possible through the generous support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
