Achieving and maintaining compliance with local, state and federal regulations can be an arduous process. It’s important for facility managers to remember that parking lot runoff, parts cleaning processes, outdoor storage of raw materials, manufacturing scrap and rejects, painting/printing/adhesive processes, chemicals used in manufacturing, vent hoods and booths, secondary containment and spill prevention systems are all subject to regulation.
The Toxics Release Inventory Program (TRI) is a collection of data on over 650 chemicals used by 23,000 manufacturing, metal mining, electric power generation, chemical manufacturing and hazardous waste treatment companies. Section 313 of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-To-Know Act (EPCRA), and The Pollution Prevention Act of 1990 requires facilities in certain industries which manufacture, process or use toxic chemicals above specified amounts to report, on or before July 1, 2015, how they treat, recycle or combust for energy recovery.
