    • “Be The Astronaut” – Blast off in a space capsule and discover the future of space exploration! Come aboard Starship Sloan, explore interactive navigation and technology stations and get ready to pilot your own mission. Videogame interfaces and hands-on command centers allow visitors to become the engineers and astronauts that make space flight possible.
    • “Collecting Flint from A to Z” – The Sloan Museum has a variety of artifacts, nearly 400,000 of them! You name it, they probably have one. This exhibit highlights 26 groups from Sloan’s vast and varied collection. Each alphabetized set reveals something about Flint’s shared history. View historic automobiles, firearms, radios, wedding dresses, beer, blueprints and everything in-between.
    • “Flint and the American Dream” – Take a fascinating journey through Flint in the 20th century – from the birth of the auto industry to the present. The gallery displays over 600 artifacts and photographs, including rare antique automobiles, colorful neon signs, period clothing, household furnishings and commercial goods.
    • “An Equal Opportunity Lie” – In 1967, Flint Mayor Floyd McCree, resigned his appointed position, stating, “I refuse to live an equal opportunity lie.” He did so in protest of the city commission’s defeat of an open housing ordinance. Using objects and images from Sloan Museum’s collection, this exhibition examines the housing segregation that characterized Flint’s residential development, as well as efforts to wrest the city free from discriminatory housing practices.
    • “Art at Work: Early GM Designs of Dick Ruzzin” – This exhibition showcases over 30 automotive design sketches from one of General Motors’ most prolific car designers, on loan from the artist. The artistry of Ruzzin’s designs went largely unacknowledged until the late 1980s. They were viewed as work product, and generally thrown away when projects came to an end. Ruzzin was given permission to retain only a tiny fraction of the artwork he produced during his career. This display offers a rare glimpse into the art generated in the pursuit of a larger goal – to ultimately produce cars that were beautiful, functional and desirable.
    • “Wisner’s Whizbang Emporium” – Explore Wisner’s Whizbang Emporium, an interactive gallery where young and old can play together. Wonder at toys from the past as the little one’s shop for food in the miniature grocery store and cook in the play kitchen. Take the wheel in the climb-on ambulance, play a board game or discover a book together.

Join a family, from another star system, as they seek to find the perfect vacation spot. Which destination would you choose? Recommended for ages 5 and older.
    • “Violent Universe” (Show starts Friday 7 p.m.) From the upheaval of a giant star that explodes to release its material into space, to a future encounter between the Earth and a large asteroid that is too close for comfort, witness the forces that hold the universe together and occasionally try to rip it apart.
    • “The Queen Light Show: From Mercury With Love” (Show starts Friday & Saturday 8 p.m.) Longway Planetarium breathes new life into the wildly popular classic rock light show format with an original production set to the music of Queen. Recommended for adults.
    • “Sea Monsters” (Show starts Saturday & Sunday 1 p.m.) Journey 80 million years back in time to an age when mighty dinosaurs dominated the land and an equally astonishing assortment of ferocious creatures swarmed, hunted and fought for survival beneath the vast, mysterious prehistoric seas.
    • “Space School” – (Show starts Saturday 4 p.m. & 7 p.m. and Sunday 4 p.m.) Plunge into microgravity simulation in the world’s most high-tech swimming pool, where astronauts practice repairing the International Space Station.     • “The Art of Containment – Vessels from the Sidney Swidler Collection” – In 1984, Sidney Swidler began collecting contemporary ceramics and, since that time, has collected over 1,000 objects. In 2017, Swidler gifted over 100 objects to the FIA. This collection of ceramics encompasses pieces by ceramicists working predominantly with the vessel form and illustrate the versatility of this art form and the breadth of Swidler’s collection.
    • “The Scale 2” – Kawita Vatanajyankur’s art offers a powerful examination of the psychological, social and cultural ways of viewing and valuing the continuing challenges of women’s everyday labor. In her videos, the artist undertakes physical experiments that playfully, often painfully, test her body’s limits – a challenge that is both unavoidably compelling and perplexing to watch.
    • “Rhythms and Experiences: Everyday Life in 19th-century Japanese Prints” – This exhibition, curated by associate professor of art history at the University of Michigan-Flint, Dr. Sarah Lippert, explores Japanese prints from the FIA’s permanent collection. The exhibit focuses on the simple elegance of the quotidian in Japanese life and explores why artists and collectors in Europe fell in love with Japonisme, a cult of Japanese aesthetic tradition.
    • “Ubuhle Women: Beadwork and the Art of Independence” – This exhibition showcases a new form of textile art known as ndwango, developed by a community of women living and working together in rural KwaZula-Natal, South Africa. Established in 1999 by two women, on a former sugar plantation, the Ubuhle (meaning beauty in the Xhosa and Zulu languages) began as a way of creating employment for rural women combining traditional skills, like beadwork, and making them profitable. By stretching textile (ndwango) like a canvas, artists transform the flat cloth into a contemporary art form colored with Czech glass beads. The artwork provides an emotional outlet for a community affected by HIV/AIDS and low employment, as well as a route for financial independence for the artists.

Maryanne Mott and her late husband, Herman Warsh, initiated the collection in 2001 as a means of providing fine art to a broader audience in the City of Flint and beyond. With a focus on art produced since 1940, the Mott-Warsh Collection contains work by over 125 artists covering a range of media from drawing to painting, prints to photography and mixed media to sculpture.
