Six local girls’ soccer teams to play at the historic Atwood Stadium at Kettering University

(FLINT, Mich. May 8, 2024) The Vehicle City Soccer Classic Committee is gearing up for the 2024 Vehicle City Soccer Classic featuring six girls’ soccer teams on Saturday, May 18. The series of games will feature local high schools competing on the turf of Kettering University’s historic Atwood Stadium in Flint.  

“With the success of our first Soccer Classic in 2023, we are excited to expand to girls’ soccer this year,” says Judge Duncan Beagle, president of the Vehicle City Sports Committee. “We’re looking forward to showcasing the athletic talent here in Genesee County.” 

The game will begin with matchups starting at 12 p.m. The match-up schedule includes:

  • 12 p.m. – Holly High School vs. Powers Catholic High School 
  • 2 p.m. – Flushing High School vs. Grand Blanc High School 
  • 4 p.m. – Lake Fenton High School vs. Linden High School 

“This competition is a great place for kids who love soccer to see regional high schools’ elite battle it out on the field and a fantastic place for collegiate scouts to get an eye on our local talent,” says Shannon Easter White, member of the Vehicle City Soccer Classic committee. “The entire community should take pride and come out and support this amazeballs showcase of great soccer matches and she-power!” 

Gates will open at 10 a.m. Gate admission is $5 (children five and under are admitted free) and parking at the stadium is $5. Tickets are available on GoFan.com.  

“We look forward to welcoming six great schools to the first annual girls’ edition of the Vehicle City Soccer Classic,” says Tom Saxton, member of the Vehicle City Soccer committee. “The event will be a great opportunity for the student-athletes and their teams to showcase their game and prepare for the upcoming state playoffs.” 

The Vehicle City Sports Committee hopes this game will act as a showcase for regional college scouts to see the talent we have at these Genesee County schools.
