Flint-based Security Credit Union President and CEO Christopher Estes has been recognized as The Salvation Army Genesee/Shiawassee Regional Command’s 2015 Hands of Mercy Award recipient.
The award is presented each year to an individual or organization that shares The Salvation Army’s longstanding dedication to the local community, while pioneering civic responsibility and leadership roles.
A Michigan native, Estes has a rich history of local community involvement. He currently serves as the president of The Salvation Army Advisory Board – a leadership role he’s had for more than two years. During that time, Estes has increased the significance of the advisory board’s working committees; overseen the installation of an elevator for the Flint Citadel Corps; and increased efficiency and effectiveness of board meetings.
As the head of Security Credit Union, Estes encourages sponsorships, events, volunteering, investing in and supporting programs that motivate growth in the community and enrich lives.
“On behalf of the board of directors, I would like to congratulate Christopher on this extraordinary achievement,” said Kennith Scott, chairman of Security Credit Union’s board of directors. “He is both a committed and gifted leader who possesses the drive and dedication to bring people together around common goals. He’s proven this through his work in the community and at SCU.”
Estes also volunteers as vice chairman of the Flint Chapter of Credit Unions, trustee and a member of the FSO Committee for the Flint Institute of Music, director of Back to the Bricks, and vice chairman of Bikes on the Bricks.
