Day-long event featuring local attractions comes back to the community after five years on 810 Day
(Flint, Mich. May 6, 2024) Mark your calendars! Explore Flint & Genesee is bringing back Be a Tourist in Your Hometown after a five-year hiatus. The one-day event allows locals to tour area attractions and experience everything their hometown has to offer. The event will be hosted on August 10, 2024 – known locally as 810 Day – and costs $1 to participate.
“We are so happy to be able to bring back Be a Tourist on 810 Day,” says Amari Steward, executive director of Explore Flint & Genesee. “Our team knows how important it is to explore your local community. The people who live here are at the frontline of welcoming visitors to the community, and how can they do that if they haven’t experienced it themselves?”
During the day, participants can experience five different tours featuring attractions from around Genesee County. These themed tours include a walking tour, a history tour, a family-friendly tour, an arts and culture tour, and a “what’s new” tour. Attractions will be announced for each tour closer to the event.
Be a Tourist in Your Hometown was started in 2013 to allow the community to enjoy the jewels of the region. In 2019, it was revamped to year-round tours that were led by the Explore Flint & Genesee team. By 2020, the pandemic put the event on hold. However, after five years, Be a Tourist is back as it traditionally was for one day only. At its peak, the event drew in over 1,000 locals who were able to experience a variety of attractions in Genesee County.
On the event day, local restaurants and bars will be participating with food and drink specials. And with the date this year, 810 Day, there will be other events happening in the area for locals coming to downtown Flint.
