Regional Chamber YouthQuest Celebrates the Arts with ArtQuest 2012

Works by More Than 2,000 Area Students Featured in Exhibit; Public Reception May 15

(FLINT, MICH.) Art inspired by Picasso, music reflecting diversity and poetry to lift your spirit will be on display as the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce YouthQuest afterschool program presents ArtQuest 2012:  A Celebration of Colors.  The art exhibit, which will run from Tuesday, May 15 through Thursday, May 17 takes place from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the atrium of the Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy Building, 4110 S. Saginaw Street in Flint.

On Tuesday, May 15 at 5:00 p.m. the public is welcome to attend a reception and experience visual, written and performance art during the event kickoff, which features a silent auction of the students’ works.  Attendees will have an opportunity to bid on select art from the exhibit.

According to Tim Herman, CEO of the Regional Chamber this exhibition is the culmination of the art enrichment activities that YouthQuest students participate in throughout the school year.

“ArtQuest showcases the incredible talent that enriches our region,” said Herman.  “This event provides an opportunity for the community to show support for the arts and join the students in a creative celebration as the school year comes to an end.”

The ArtQuest 2012 exhibition is the result of works from more than 2,000 YouthQuest students.  The exhibition features more than 800 pieces of artwork, as well as skits, dance routines and musical performances.  Students from 15 YouthQuest schools will participate in a three-day event.

“Creativity is the hallmark of YouthQuest,” said Rhetta Hunyady, Group Vice President, Education & Training.  “When the school day ends, YouthQuest provides an enrichment experience designed to enhance students’ leadership skills and increase their appreciation of the arts.  The works on display at ArtQuest represent the hard work of thousands of YouthQuest students.  This is an important show not to miss.”

In addition, ArtQuest will feature art entries for the C.S. Mott Annual Report Cover Contest submitted by students from the YouthQuest, 21st Century afterschool program of the Genesee Intermediate School District and Flint Community Schools, and the Boys and Girls Club.

YouthQuest is a free after school program that reaches more than 2,000 K-8 students at 15 school-based sites in Flint and Genesee County managed by the Regional Chamber.  For more information about ArtQuest contact Rhetta Hunyady at (810) 600-1412 or visit www.yquest.org.
