YouthQuest Celebrates Year-End with Global Games
(FLINT, MICH.) A world view, a global economic perspective and national pride were among the many things students explored during the YouthQuest Global Games. On Thursday, June 7 at Word of Life Activity Center hundreds of students gathered to participate in the YouthQuest Global Games United Nations from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event was the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce YouthQuest afterschool program’s year-end celebration.
Students from 15 YouthQuest school sites from throughout the region presented the countries they created during after school activities. Each site was tasked with creating a country name, creating a constitution, a monetary system and a national sport.
“Building global leaders positioned for success is a critical element of YouthQuest,” said Tim Herman, CEO of the Regional Chamber. “Global Games provides area youth with the means to look at how global economies work and gain greater insight into global connectivity. This is another example of the many ways that YouthQuest prepares students to interact, collaborate and compete with their peers around the globe.”
According to Rhetta Hunyady, Vice President of Employer Education and Training for the Regional Chamber, Global Games is all about helping students explore the interconnectivity of our world.
“Leaders of the future will need to have a global economic view,” said Hunyady. “Global Games is designed to help youth gain that perspective. We created a fun, interactive way for YouthQuest students to introduce the country they created, explain their currency and share the culture through this unique learning experience. It’s impressive to see the creativity expressed during preparation for the games.”
