On the Job: Tiffani Johnson

Tiffani Johnson has a passion for helping people. Currently, the TeenQuest graduate serves as a lead learning guide at Freeman Elementary for YouthQuest, a program she also attended when she was in school. And it’s safe to say she loves the work that she does.

“My favorite thing is working with the kids,” says Johnson. “The drive they give me keeps me coming back to work every day. I love that I am not just building relationships with them but, positively impacting their lives as well.”

Johnson is using her passion to impact more lives by starting the Doris Ann United Outreach Foundation, a non-profit organization named after and inspired by her late grandmother. And although the organization is not incorporated yet, she is already helping the community.

“Last November, I hosted a skating fundraiser,” says Johnson. “The proceeds from the fundraiser went to a family in need at Freeman Elementary to help them over Christmas break.”

Below, find out what this Southwestern graduate has planned for the future and how TeenQuest impacted her.

What is a memorable moment from TeenQuest?

Graduation day. Back then it seemed like such a huge accomplishment. I was only 14 when I took TeenQuest, but I still use the tools I learned in the program in every interview.

How has TeenQuest helped you after graduation?

One thing I love about TeenQuest is the program organizers stick with you. If there are jobs out there, they will email you because you’re an alumna. They never leave you hanging.

Why did you decide to apply to be a YouthQuest learning guide?

I have been with these programs for so long, so I decided to give it a try and I fell in love with it.

What are your plans for the future?

I want to build my foundation. But, I also see myself staying with YouthQuest, because it has helped me so far in life.

What advice would you give to current TeenQuest students?

Pay attention and take it [TeenQuest] seriously. It might seem boring at times or like you’re just getting ready for a summer job, but it’s more than that. It’s getting you ready for every real job you’re going to get after TeenQuest.

TeenQuest and Summer Youth Initiative are made possible through the generous support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
