Magna Electronics Technology, Inc. recently announced a $64.8 million expansion of operations here in Genesee County, MI. The expansion will create 385 jobs over the next five years, including engineering, operations and management positions.
A portion of the investment will be used for a 35,000 square foot expansion to increase production of rear vision cameras. Construction is set to begin the third quarter of 2011. Limited production will begin near the end of 2012, with full production in 2014.
In April, Magna Electronics received approval for state and local tax credits totaling $2.1 million for this project.
“Magna’s decision to expand here highlights our competitive cost structure and the significant capability of our workforce, transportation infrastructure and other strengths. This expansion allows the company to grow their business, offer innovative new products and create new jobs in our community,” said Tim Herman, CEO, Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce and MEGA Board member. “Our economic development staff played an important role in bringing together all the partners and resources including the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, MEGA Board, Grand Blanc Township and Michigan Works! Career Alliance.”
