Regional Chamber African American Advisory Committee and Flint Black Chamber of Commerce Host
Do you understand the impact politics has on your business? Become more informed by attending the “Legislative Policies – Do You Know How Your Business is Being Impacted by Politics?” event on Friday, September 28. The Lunch & Learn seminar will be held at the University of Michigan-Flint School of Management at Riverfront Banquet Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Hosted by the African American Advisory Committee (AAAC) of the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce and the Flint Black Chamber of Commerce this event is part of a series of Lunch and Learn business seminars.
The seminar, which is open to all businesses in the region, will highlight existing policies affecting the growth and success of small business owners. Brian Larkin, Associate Director of the Office of Urban & Metropolitan Initiatives Flint office will provide perspectives for business owners regarding availability of financial resources, proposed small business legislation pros and cons, as well as online access to business legislation.
According to Larkin businesses should pay attention to how the bills passed and policies implemented in Lansing either support or prohibit their success.
“This is a great opportunity for local business to gain insight into how government policies influence the business environment,” said Larkin. “Every aspect of doing business is affected by the policy and becoming more informed about business-related policies will definitely benefit your business.”
Terence Broussard, Chair of the African American Advisory Committee of the Regional Chamber and General Manager of Genesee Packaging says with elections coming in a little over a month this is the perfect time to learn more.
“Friday’s lunch and learn is very timely for local business owners,” said Broussard. “As we prepare to vote in November, it is critical that businesses assess the ways that policies affect success now and in the future.”
Linda Ryals Massey, Owner of the Ryals Massey Group and a member of the Regional Chamber’s AAAC, says that businesses are often called upon to look for innovative ways to grow and understanding the role that policy plays in supporting growth is very important.
“It is critical in an election year to know how those in office have voted on the issues that could help or hurt your business,” said Massey. “As business owners we need to be informed about how those who want our vote champion issues that can create a strong business climate.”
