Janice Karcher, Vice President of Economic Development for the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce, has been appointed to the Mid-America Economic Development Council (Mid-America EDC) Board of Directors. Karcher, who joined the Mid-America EDC board in December, will serve a 3-year term.

The Mid-America EDC is a multi-state association dedicated to being a leading resource for education, making connections and sharing best practices for economic development professionals and organizations in the Mid-America region – Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Mid-America EDC’s focus is to connect and convene resources to compete as a region on the national and international economic development stages.

The Board of Directors is comprised of two directors from each of the 10 states in the region, along with four officers.  Click here for the 2016 Mid-America EDC Board.

Twice a year, the Mid-America EDC holds conferences, open to those inside and outside the Mid-America region. In 2016, the Best Practices Conference will be held May 18-20 in Columbus, Ohio. The 2016 Best Practices Conference will focus on workforce development education.

The Competitiveness Conference and Site Selector Forum, held each year in December in Chicago, is scheduled for Dec. 4-6.  This conference is one of the best ways to make regional economic development contacts as well as to learn about what other states in the region are doing and how Indiana stacks up. Additionally, the conference allows attendees to mingle with national site selectors and corporate realtors.
