Jumpstart Offers Entrepreneurs Tools to Get Started; Honors Small Business Owners

Regional Chamber and eTEAM Sponsor Conference; SBA Michigan District Director to Speak

Jumpstart Logo(FLINT, MICH – March 8)  Aspiring entrepreneurs in Genesee County can learn how to start a business and existing small businesses can learn growth strategies at the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce eTEAM’s fifth Annual Jumpstart Conference.  The conference, which takes place on Thursday, March 22 at the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre from 8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., includes workshops and an awards luncheon.

The luncheon highlighting the “Genesee 10 to Watch” and Spark Award recipients will feature Gerald Moore, Michigan District Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration as the key note speaker.  Moore will share his personal experience as an entrepreneur and address ways the SBA can assist small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Tim Herman, CEO of the Regional Chamber describes the Jumpstart Conference as an excellent way for Genesee County entrepreneurs and small business owners to gain the knowledge needed to grow successful businesses.

“Entrepreneurs looking to create or grow a business in Genesee County will find what they need at Jumpstart,” said Herman. “The conference is designed to connect businesses with development and growth resources.  Participants will also have the opportunity to network with other business owners to hear first-hand their strategies for success.”

Jumpstart participants will have the opportunity to participate in breakout sessions on a variety of topics, including:

  • Marketing
  • Legal Structures
  • Inventors:  Idea to Market

“Jumpstart is a low-cost event for entrepreneurs and new business owners and the agenda is packed full of valuable information,” said Janice Karcher, Regional Chamber Vice President of Economic Development.  “This conference is an opportunity to encourage entrepreneurship in the region.”  

The conference also features an awards luncheon highlighting businesses selected as the “Genesee 10 to Watch” and Spark Award recipients.  The honorees are selected based on their growth trajectory and entrepreneurial success.  Spark Awards are presented to new businesses and the Genesee 10 to Watch recognizes early stage businesses that have exhibited growth.
