(FLINT, Mich. – Feb. 12, 2018) Professionals from throughout the region will share their stories, expertise and insights during INSPIRE Leadership, a speaker series from the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce that launches Feb. 22.
The year-long series, sponsored by Diplomat, will feature six thought-provoking talks that aim to inspire leadership in Flint and Genesee County. Each leader will have one hour to share his or her ideas and lessons learned, as well as answer questions from the audience.
“This is a great opportunity for community members to hear from and engage with leaders representing the business, nonprofit and higher education sectors in our region,” said Michelle Hill, Director of Core Initiatives and Shared Services, Flint & Genesee Chamber. “We look forward to learning about what motivates these speakers, what they have learned along their leadership journeys and how we might apply those lessons in our own lives.”
The first talk, to be held Feb. 22, will be led by Dr. Susan E. Borrego, Chancellor of the University of Michigan-Flint. As Chancellor, Borrego has ushered in new academic programs to meet the evolving educational needs of the state and beyond. Her ongoing research focuses on student learning and success, developing organizational capacity to serve under-represented students, and class and diversity issues.
In addition to Borrego, the INSPIRE Leadership schedule includes:
- April 19: Essence Wilson, Chief Strategy Officer, Communities First, Inc.
- May 31: George Wilkinson, President, NorthGate
- June 28: Kathleen Gazall, Business Manager, Gazall, Lewis & Associates, Architects
- August 2: Rafael Turner, Program Officer, Ruth Mott Foundation
- October 18: Shannon White, Founding Principal, FUNchitecture
All talks are free and open to the public, although registration is required. Each talk will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the Insight Institute of Neurosurgery & Neuroscience (IINN), at 4800 Saginaw St., Flint, and includes lunch.
