(Flint, Mich., Feb. 3, 2025) Flint & Genesee Education & Talent, a division of the Flint & Genesee Group, will host its first Talent Horizon Summit on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. It will take place at the Genesee Career Institute Conference Center, located at 5081 Torrey Road in Mundy Township. The event is for human resources and talent professionals, business leaders, and educational partners who want to learn about workforce trends in our region.
“We are excited to host this half-day summit and dive into the future of talent in our area,” says Brianna Mosier, executive director of Flint & Genesee Education & Talent. “With partnerships throughout the thumb region, we can work together to help move the needle forward regarding the attraction and retention of talent.”
The event, sponsored by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), is hosted in partnership with the University of Michigan-Flint, GST Michigan Works!, and the Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership (SEDP).
Program attendees will hear a keynote from Chris Rishko, director of Talent Solutions at the MEDC. Rishko is responsible for developing and implementing systems and strategies in collaboration with partners across Michigan. In his keynote, he’ll address resetting the tone as it relates to building and sustaining regional talent with data and projections.
“Building a strong and resilient workforce starts with investing in our people. Through our ‘Make It in Michigan’ economic development strategy, we’re creating opportunities for talent to grow, thrive, and stay in our state,” said Chris Rishko. “I look forward to participating in the Talent Horizon Summit to explore the strategies and collaboration we need to succeed and ensure Michigan remains a top destination for talent and businesses alike.”
Following Rishko’s keynote, there will be two breakout sessions. One, led by Mosier, will highlight the workforce already in our region at local colleges and universities and discuss how employers can use internships to draw in talent.
Julie Bellamy, founder and president of Sequelle HR Suite, will facilitate the other session and dive into what it takes to become a “Magnet for Talent in Mid-Michigan” by highlighting what Gen Z talent is seeking in both an employer and their professional careers. Bellamy will also explore retention initiatives that are in line with generational trends.
At the end of the summit, participants will leave with the knowledge needed to continue to shape what talent attraction and retention looks like in Flint & Genesee and beyond.
Registration for the Talent Horizon Summit is $25/attendee, and participants can register by visiting EducateFlintandGenesee.org.
