Highlights: July 2019

Exploring New Places

Middle school students participating in Summer on the Road went on an end of summer trip to Cincinnati, Ohio. Students got to explore the unfamiliar city, went to museums and aquariums, and relaxed at the pool.

Warm Hearts

Service learning is a key component of YouthQuest. At Brownell STEM Academy, students went to work making no-sew blankets that were donated to those in need. Students also wrote “thinking of you” cards for the elderly.

Makers in the Making

High school students in Summer on the Road visited Factory Two where they learned a variety of skills, including blacksmithing, woodworking and virtual reality filmmaking. Students were able to take their creations home from the local makerspace.

Flavor of the Week

In lieu of clubs, YouthQuest at Eisenhower Elementary chose different themes for each week. During Culinary Week, students learned about kitchen safety and healthy eating habits. They also made fruit kabobs, trail mix and healthy no-bake cookies. For STEM Week, students designed robots, read books about technology and outer space, and visited an Escape Room to test their new skills.

YouthQuest is made possible through the generous support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
