(FLINT, Mich. Dec. 5, 2013) — In the ultimate job shadowing opportunity, 25 high school seniors from Flint and Genesee County schools will spend a day on the job at Genesys Regional Medical Center Dec. 5. Students will all rotate between five health care-related sessions in groups of five, including Lean Processes, Nursing, Occupational/Physical Therapy, Lab and Pharmacy.
Students who indicated an interest in health care careers on their Education Development Plan were selected to participate in the second Genesys Workday, coordinated by the Education & Training unit of the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce, as a school day activity. Participating students are from six area high schools: Bendle, Clio, Fenton, Genesee Early College, Mt. Morris and Swartz Creek.
The first Genesys Workday was in March of this year. “The feedback from our students was outstanding,” said Rhetta Hunyady, Vice President for Education & Training for the Chamber, so it was decided to offer a second Workday at the medical facility.
Structured like a real-world working day, students are expected to dress in business casual attire and must arrive at the medical center at 8:30 a.m. They begin their career rotations at 9 a.m., concluding at 3 p.m., and lunch is also working session with presentations by Genesys medical staff.
