Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce to Honor Local Businesses

Nominations Are Open for 2011 Business Awards

(FLINT, Michigan – SEPTEMBER 7)  Do you know of a business that provides exemplary customer service, has gone green in an impactful way or has shown a strong commitment to the community?  If so, consider nominating the business for the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce 2011 Business Awards.  Nominations are currently being accepted.   Awards will be presented at a gala event on Thursday, November 10 at the Riverfront Banquet Center in downtown Flint.

According to Tim Herman, CEO at the Regional Chamber the 2011 Business Awards provide an opportunity for the business community to pay tribute to those who are working to make a difference in the region.

“Flint and Genesee County businesses are doing great things every day and quite often those things go unnoticed,” said Herman.  “By honoring those who have stepped up to the mantle of leadership through green initiatives or by setting a high standard of excellence both internally and externally we help the community learn more about the accomplishments of businesses in the region.”

The biennial awards honor both businesses and individuals in the following nine categories:

  • Robert P. Gerholz Business of the Year
  • C.S. Mott Citizen of the Year
  • Outstanding Service Business
  • Outstanding Retail Business
  • Outstanding Manufacturing Business
  • Outstanding Minority-owned Business
  • Outstanding Woman-owned Business
  • Outstanding Corporate Citizen
  • Outstanding Community Beautification

Steve Flynn, Director, Member Services at the Regional Chamber says this event provides the perfect opportunity to shine a light on the exceptional business community in this region.

“The 2011 Business awards provide an opportunity to bring the business community together for a celebration of excellence,” said Flynn.  “Area organizations should nominate the businesses that they know are doing great work either through great customer service or in the community.  And then on November 10 every business in the region should show up to celebrate with the honorees.  It will definitely be the premier event of the year.”

Nominations are open to for-profit businesses located in Genesee County that have been in continuous operation for at least three years, employ from two to 400 people and have annual gross sales of $100,000 or more.  The nomination form for each award can be found at www.flintandgenesee.org/businessawards .  It is permissible for a business to self-nominate.

Previous honorees have typically made gains in sales, profits or employment; achieved significant, measurable goals; created new products and/or services; made significant social contributions to the community or made a noteworthy investment in their business that has had a positive impact on the community.

Sponsorships are also currently available for the November 10 awards event.  For more information about the business awards contact Debbie Garrison at (810) 600-1416 or email .
