(FLINT, MICH. – September 17) The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Diplomat to promote fitness among church congregations in Flint through the Hero 5k Church Challenge. The Challenge offers congregations with 10 or more participants in the 5k the opportunity to win a $1,000 Home Depot gift card. The race takes place on Thursday, September 18. Funds will be awarded through the Genesee Chamber Foundation, a non-profit arm of the Flint & Genesee Chamber.
The Church Challenge is part of Diplomat’s partnership with the Crim Fitness Foundation to expand the CrimFit Adult Training Program, particularly in Flint’s North End.
The Hero 5k is part of a slate of activities surrounding The Hero Round Table conference. Race participants representing a congregation should sign in at the appropriate table at registration. The race is free of charge and begins at 5:00 p.m.
According to Cheryl Defrain, Director of the Flint & Genesee Convention and Visitors Bureau the Hero 5k is a great way to kick off the Hero Round Table Conference and support community engagement.
“The Church Challenge is our way of supporting fitness within congregations across the region,” said DeFrain. “By providing an incentive for participation, we hope to get additional church members to step up to the challenge. The Hero 5k is a great event for the region.”
