Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce to Honor Local Businesses

(FLINT, MICH. – Oct. 23, 2013) The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce will celebrate local business success during the 2013 Business Awards.  Bill Harris, veteran television anchor for NBC25 will serve as master of ceremonies for the awards gala, which takes place on Thursday, November 7 at the Riverfront Banquet Center in downtown Flint.

The 2013 Business Awards will highlight several of the region’s outstanding businesses and individuals.  Harris participates in the event for the first time.  The Emmy award winning anchor has spent more than 50 years in local television and radio and is a familiar face and voice in the region.

According to Tim Herman, CEO of the Flint & Genesee Chamber the 2013 Business Awards provide an opportunity to pay tribute to those who are having an impact on the communities they serve.

“Business excellence is critical to the successful economic growth of our region,” said Herman.  “It is apropos that Bill will join us for the Business Awards.  Given his career accomplishments it’s a great fit for him to help us present awards to outstanding businesses.”

The biennial awards honor both businesses and individuals in the following categories:

Robert P. Gerholz Business of the Year

  • C.S. Mott Citizen of the Year
  • Ambassador of the Year
  • Outstanding Service Business
  • Outstanding Manufacturing Business
  • Outstanding Minority-owned Business
  • Outstanding Woman-owned Business
  • Outstanding Corporate Citizen
  • Outstanding Green Business

Each award will recognize outstanding contributions from a local business or individual selected from among several nominees in each category.  In addition to the awards, businesses also will be recognized for reaching significant milestones and anniversaries.

Heather Kale, Director of Member Services for the Flint & Genesee Chamber says the awards also serve as an opportunity for businesses in the region to celebrate excellence together.

“Every area business should consider joining us on November 7,” said Kale.  “We will be honoring outstanding businesses and acknowledging businesses that have reached important milestones. It should be a great night.”

The awards event begins with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m. and a program at 7:00 p.m. featuring the presentation of awards.
