(Flint, Michigan) Flint’s Bishop International Airport (FNT) is taking a bite out of the Big Apple, with today’s launch of United Airlines’ new nonstop service to New York/Newark Airport (EWR). Newark is one of three commercial airports serving the metropolitan New York area. FNT serves a region of almost 3 million passengers, and this new route gives them their most direct and convenient flight to the East Coast and beyond.
“United’s first-ever service between Flint and our hub at New York/Newark opens a world of opportunity for our business and leisure customers in Southeast Michigan,” said Cheryl Cannon, United’s Midwest Sales Manager. “This new route offers customers nonstop access from Flint to the New York area and opportunities to connect to 79 domestic and 56 flights to Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada.”
Airport Director, Craig Williams said that “being able to offer our region’s travelers nonstop access to one of the world’s greatest financial centers is fantastic! Not only is it perfect for a business day trip, or catch a Broadway matinee, the flight is ideally timed to connect up and down the eastern seaboard, as well as internationally.”
Tim Herman, CEO of the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce, said the new service to New York/Newark will be a tremendous benefit to our business community.
“We have many businesses in our region that rely on additional air service to help them conduct business on the East Coast,” said Herman. “Bishop and the Flint & Genesee Chamber have been proud partners in boosting the region’s economic vitality, and this new route further solidifies our commitment to meeting that objective.”
Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson agreed.
“Bishop International Airport and the airlines it serves continue to play an important role in our region’s success,” said Brooks. “Not only will United Airlines enable northern Oakland County businesses and residents to travel to and from New York City in one day, it also will open up key destinations in Asia – a vital market to a county with over 1,000 foreign-owned firms from 39 countries.”
