Six local high school teams to play at Kettering University’s historic Atwood Stadium
(FLINT, Mich. Aug. 10, 2023) The Vehicle City Sports Committee is set to present the first annual Vehicle City Soccer Classic on Saturday, August 19 starting at 1 p.m. The series of games will feature local high schools competing on the turf of Kettering University’s historic Atwood Stadium in Flint.
“With the success of Gridiron Classic and the increasing popularity of soccer, our Sports Committee felt the time was right to showcase our high school soccer players at a venue like Atwood Stadium,” says Judge Duncan Beagle, president of the Vehicle City Sports Committee.
The games will begin with matchups starting at 1 p.m. Gate admission is $5 and parking at the stadium is $5 for the high school games. The matchup schedule includes:
- 1 p.m. – Milford High School vs. Lake Fenton High School
- 3 p.m. – Flushing High School vs. Carman Ainsworth High School
- 5 p.m. – Davison High School vs. Linden High School.
“I am excited to see and be a part of the Vehicle City Soccer Classic,” says Tom Saxton, member of the Vehicle City Sports Committee. “I am certain the participants and spectators will enjoy their experience at Kettering’s historic Atwood Stadium.”
After the high school matchups, the Flint City Bucks, the city’s USL League Two team, will compete against North York FC from Toronto in an Exhibition Game starting at 7:15 p.m. High school tickets will be valid for Bucks admission as well. The Bucks game alone is $10 for adults and $5 for kids and tickets are available at www.flintcitybucks.com.
