Working in hiring and recruiting for many years, Nikki Rogers knew she wanted to do things differently.
“I wanted to expand and make (recruiting) more personalized,” says Rogers. “Instead of saying, ‘Here’s a resume, good luck,’ I wanted to build relationships and partnerships on both ends (of recruiting).”
With support from her husband, family, and friends, Rogers decided to go out on her own in October 2023 and open Link Recruiting.
Since then, Rogers has been working with many different types of businesses to create personalized recruiting strategies that will meet her clients’ needs best.
“I have clients who have worked with companies that are one contract fits all,” says Rogers. “I don’t like that. I ask how they want to do it and work with them to make it best fit their business.”
With this approach, Rogers has seen success over the past five months while she continues to grow and serve her clients.
What has been your favorite moment so far?
I think my favorite moments have been connecting with clients I have built relationships with and signed with Link Recruiting. Not just from a business aspect, but the support and words of encouragement I have received from them keeps my spirits up! I take my partnerships very seriously and to know that they have decided to join me in my journey has made this process that much more exciting.
How would you describe Flint & Genesee to an outsider?
I do that a lot. I have a lot of people from Auburn Hills and Oakland County who get positions in Genesee County. When someone is moving here, I talk about community events and businesses that are coming to Genesee County or the Genesee County Parks and the museums. I have personal experience with my children going to Longway and Sloan.
Outside of business, what do you like to do?
My family and I are avid outdoors people. We love disc golf, fishing, and hunting, and we go hiking three or four times a week near our house. We have a trail in Otisville right down by our house near Otter Lake that can go all the way to Mt. Morris depending on how far we want to walk.
Why did you decide to join the Flint & Genesee Chamber?
I worked with Jennie Main (engagement specialist at the Flint & Genesee Chamber) while I was with my previous employer, and I knew from that I wanted to join the Chamber. Not just because it’s smart for business, but because I enjoy the events and info from the Chamber – going to Luncheons and the Annual Meeting. Some of my clients I don’t meet in person until I am at a Chamber event.
What advice would you offer people looking to start a business?
Do it. That’s my biggest advice. I have to say, the change I made by starting my own business personally and professionally was the best move. It’s so gratifying when you start something and you see success. I get Google reviews that say, “I have been searching (for a job or candidate) for years and Nikki did it!” It’s scary to start your own business but take the plunge!
