Explore Flint & Genesee Continues to Attract Events, Meetings to Genesee County

Local Convention & Visitors Bureau brings 16 groups to Flint & Genesee in the second half of 2023 

(FLINT, Mich., July 25, 2023) From July to December 2023, Explore Flint & Genesee, the convention and visitors bureau division of the Flint & Genesee Group, has booked 16 events which are expected to result in more than 6,500 room nights at hotels located in Genesee County.  

“Every dollar spent by a visitor in Flint & Genesee turns over three times,” says Amari Steward, executive director of Explore Flint & Genesee. “There is a huge economic impact having these events booked in our area and I am so proud of our team for being able to accomplish this.” 

Events secured through the Explore Flint & Genesee sales team between July and December 2023 include: 

FireStix College Exposure Tournament 

FireStix Fastpitch was founded in 2007 and has since developed a tremendous reputation for providing the best available fundamental instruction, quality competition, and exposure for young athletes. Each year, the organization welcomes high school students from around the mid-west and Canada to compete in a college exposure softball tournament in front of college scouts. This year, the tournament took place July 6 to 8 at Creasey Bicentennial Park in Grand Blanc. 

Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament 

Back again in downtown Flint, the Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament is an all-ages tournament open to the public. This year, the tournament will be held in downtown Flint on July 29-30.  

Really Cool Comic Con 

Located at Dort Financial Center, Really Cool Comic Con is Michigan’s largest summer comic con featuring a variety of special guests including Jake the Snake Roberts. Attendees can enjoy comics, toys, anime, video games, artists, celebrity guests, tabletop gaming, cosplay, and more at the event. The Really Cool Comic Con is set for August 5 and 6.  

Tattoo City Tattoo Convention 

For the third year in a row, the Tattoo City Tattoo Convention will be held at Dort Financial Center with a weekend of activities for tattoo lovers. This event includes tattoo contests, entertainment, a Ms. Tattoo City competition, burlesque shows, and beard and mustache contests. The event is set for August 11 to 13.  

Mott Lake Regatta 

A first of its kind, the Mott Lake Regatta is a partnership between Genesee County and the Marine Prop Riders. The event will be held on Mott Lake off of Bluebell Beach in Flint on August 12 and 13.  

Randy Wise Junior Open 

A tournament of the American Junior Golf Association, the Randy Wise Junior Open hosts students ages 12-19. It is a Junior-Am Open Tournament played at Spring Meadows Country Club in Linden from August 14 to 17.  

Back to the Bricks

The main event week includes a Crusin’ Car Show at Shea Automotive, Bricks Flicks at the US-23 Drive-In Theater, rolling cruises, car shows, and a Live Cruise “N” Concert brought to you by Big John Steak & Onion and Tonic Events featuring Miranda and the M-80’s on Friday and Bernadette Kathryn and the Lonely Days Band on Saturday. The week of events is from August 14-19.

The Ally Challenge

The Ally Challenge presented by McLaren is an official event on the PGA TOUR Champions owned and operated by Tournaments for Charity, a Michigan non-profit corporation. This 54-hole stroke play golf tournament features 78 PGA TOUR Champions professionals competing for a $2 million purse at the historic Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc. The tournament will also include two concerts. One on Friday featuring Don Felder of The Eagles and one on Saturday featuring Miranda Lambert. The event is held from August 24 to 27.  

Crim Festival of Races 

The 45th HAP Crim Festival of Races is an annual event in downtown Flint that includes the signature 10 Mile, Half Crim 5 Mile, 5K, One Mile, and Teddy Bear Trot. The Crim Festival Lot will also be open on Friday and Saturday with adult beverages and soft drinks, Little Caesers Pizza, food trucks, vendor tents, and live music featuring Heat Above on Friday and IMAGE on Saturday. The event will be held on August 25 and 26.  

Bikes on the Bricks 

Another annual event in Flint, Bikes on the Bricks, will bring hundreds of motorcycles downtown. The weekend features a police skills competition, a bike show, a police-escorted ride, and rockabilly pinup events. This year’s event will be held from September 8 to 10.  

Michigan Association of Land Banks Conference 

The Michigan Association of Lank Banks – an organization that strives to ensure that Michigan Land Banks have statewide policies, support, and capacity to operate and share information about local land bank programs – is hosting its annual conference at the Hilton Garden Inn Flint Downtown from September 20-23.  

Veterans of Foreign War Fall Conference 

The VFW Department of Michigan hosts a fall conference each year for training, committee meetings, and camaraderie. This year, the fall meeting will be held at the Gateway Hotel and Convention Center in Flint from September 29 to October 1.  

CEDAM Conversations with Community Developers 

Community Economic Development Association of Michigan is hosting its Region 5 Conversations with Community Developers event at Riverfront Conference Center on October 12.  

2023 MMA Annual Conference 

The Michigan Museums Association is hosting its annual conference in Flint, from October 23 to 25.  

MIAEYC Infant Toddler Conference 

Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children is hosting its 2023 Infant Toddler Conference in Flint on November 9 and 10.  

Alpha Phi Alpha Michigan District Alphas Conference 

The Michigan District Alphas is hosting its annual conference in Flint from November 17 to 19.
