Flint & Genesee Education & Talent has a variety of services and programs available to those in Flint and Genesee County. This includes TeenQuest, YouthQuest, Summer Youth Initiative and Flint Promise. However, there is one longstanding service that continues to be offered to Genesee County students.
“Career preparation was one of the first services we offered,” says James Avery, director of talent development at Flint & Genesee Education & Talent. “We currently serve over half a dozen school districts with curated programs for their students during day school.”
Each program is modeled to the school in which it is serving. Education & Talent staff work with the school’s career resource coordinators to ensure the best possible program for the specific school. Lessons that can be delivered include business etiquette, interviewing, soft skills, job search, applications, resume, social media and how to keep your job.
Programs happen during day school and are built into class time. Sessions can run from 30- 55 minutes and are taught by Education & Talent facilitators.
Although this program is primarily held in schools, similar experiences can be translated to businesses who want to give their employees a leg up or community organizations who want to help residents find and keep jobs.
Other services that Education & Talent provide include resume help and interview assistance for attendees at job and career fairs.
