Each month, the Greater Flint Arts Council hosts 2nd Friday ArtWalk in downtown Flint. Local business and community organizations participate each month in this event hosting pop-up shops and live music.
On May 11, YouthQuest’s middle and high school students will join in the fun by displaying their artwork in the lobby of the Mott Foundation Building. There will also be live dance and music performances throughout the evening.
“Not only will students display their art at the event, they will have the opportunity to explore other ArtWalk stops as well,” says Cheryl Adkins, YouthQuest program director. “We want to expose students to the various artists based in the Flint area and inspire them to continue their love of art.”
What will YouthQuest students find at 2nd Friday ArtWalk? A few examples include:
- Yarn Brigade + Making Cards for Hurley Kids: The Local Grocer will provide snacks and artisans will be selling Made in Michigan products. Participants can also bring knit/crochet projects to work on with the Yarn Brigade or join Flint Handmade to create greeting cards for hospitalized kids at Hurley Medical Center.
- Pictorial Intrigues: Buckham Gallery is hosting an opening reception for their latest exhibit featuring artwork from Buckham Gallery artists Donovan Entrekin and Michele Leclaire and guest artists Cheryl Bowers and Tamara Fraser.
Other participating locations include Café Rhema, Mott-Warsh Gallery and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, all of which will be open to the public and feature different styles of art.
YouthQuest’s gallery will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Mott Foundation Building, at 519 S. Saginaw St., Flint. Performances will be held at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
