The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce Summer Youth Initiative (SYI) is partnering with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to place more than 100 Flint teens in summer jobs. Funding for the jobs is provided through a grant from M-DNR. Teen employees are graduates of TeenQuest, the Chamber’s no-cost, pre-employment and leadership training program for high school students.
TeenQuest grads will be placed at outdoor positions through various organizations in the region, including: Catholic Charities, Mr. Roger’s Program; Genesee County Parks; Genesee County Land Bank; Greater Holy Temple; Second Chance Ministries; Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and the City of Flint.
Each year, more than 500 students are employed for eight to 10 weeks through SYI. Since its inception, SYI has found employment for nearly 3,000 teens throughout Genesee County.
