On June 7, YouthQuest employees and friends will join afterschool and summer enrichment programs from across the country in speaking out against President Donald Trump’s budget proposal for 2018.
Specifically, the proposal calls for the elimination of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers, which provides federal funding for more than 9,500 school-based and community centers – including YouthQuest.
As part of the Day of Action, afterschool supporters will call their state representatives and ask that they reject any proposal to cut or eliminate 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
According to a statement from Jodi Grant, Executive Director of the Afterschool Alliance, Trump’s proposal is short-sighted and a step in the wrong direction.
“If they succeed, it would be a stunning blow to working families, who count on afterschool programs to provide enriching, educational opportunities for their children during the hours after the school day ends and before parents get home from work,” Grant said.
