The Community Foundation of Greater Flint announced the appointment of six community members to its board of trustees. Joining the board are Joel Feick, Morris Peterson, Jr., Ezra L. Tillman, Jr., Ishika Gupta, Dawn Hiller and DeAndra Larkin.

  • Feick is an award-winning reporter and news anchor, and a community advocate for people with disabilities. He currently serves as Director of Development and Chief Storyteller for The Disability Network.
  • Peterson, a retired professional basketball player who played 11 seasons in the National Basketball Association, is an entrepreneur and president of the Morris Peterson Jr. Foundation, a public charity focused on giving back to Flint youth.
  • Tillman is an ordained and professionally trained minister currently serving as Senior Pastor of First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Flint. He is a renowned Baptist pastor and is active in numbers Baptist organizations at the national, state and local level.
  • Gupta is a senior at Grand Blanc High School and has served on the Community Foundation’s Countywide Youth Advisory Committee for six years.
  • Hiller is a retired community volunteer and a resident of Flushing. She served on the Flushing Area Community Fund Advisory Committee for nine years, serving as chair for the past two years.
  • Larkin is chief of staff to the Office of the President at Mott Community College, working collaboratively with MCC’s Executive Cabinet to achieve the College’s strategic plan goals and develop and manage strategic partnerships.

McLaren Flint on Jan. 25 announced that January’s Outstanding Employee of the Month is Danielle Spearman, a nurse assistant.

“It is an honor to be acknowledged and appreciated for the work I do,” said Spearman, works third shift on 11 South, the hospital’s oncology unit. “I love working with the patients and making their stay at McLaren a pleasant experience. With the patients, I immediately am put into a good mood when I walk into their room and begin to introduce myself. You never know who you are going to meet, who is going to make you laugh, cry, or smile. Sometimes, the patients can make you realize that your problems are not as big as theirs.”

The Outstanding Employee of the Month candidates are nominated by managers, directors and the hospital’s executive leadership team. Criteria for nomination are based on the hospital’s mission and core values: contribution to culture and core values, teamwork, going the extra mile, outstanding patient service, performance excellence and commitment.

 

Maiya LeGardye

Maiya LeGardye has been hired as manager of Flint Local 432, the long-running youth arts venue in Downtown Flint. Legardye, a graduate of Carman-Ainsworth High School and Mott Community College, the Local during a college internship as a sound engineer. She is working to improve production capabilities, attract more community partners and ensure the Local remains downtown’s all-ages anchor.

 

James Avery

James Avery has been appointed the Genesee County Board of Commissioners. Avery filled the vacant 5th District seat created by the retirement of Mark Young. The vote was 5-2. The 5th District includes the City of Grand Blanc, most of Grand Blanc Township, and Atlas Township. Avery’s term expires Dec. 31. Avery, director of talent development for Flint & Genesee Education & Talent, was one of seven candidates who initially filed resumes for the appointment.

 

Allegiant on Feb. 1 announced a new nonstop route from Bishop International Airport, beginning service this spring. The new route to Bishop includes Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) – beginning April 15. Flight days, times and fares can be found at Allegiant.com.

The new route is part of a nine-route expansion across Allegiant’s network, launching just in time for spring vacations.

“We’re thrilled to kick off 2022 with a network expansion in twelve of our markets,” said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s senior vice president of revenue and planning. “These new routes will grow our presence in Flint, as well as in Austin, where we recently opened a base, while connecting travelers in some of the smaller cities we serve to several popular vacation destinations such as Nashville, Savannah, Roanoke and San Diego.”

  • Moderna 1st, 2nd & 3rd doses for 18+
  • Booster doses as appropriate for 12 years+

A booster dose is recommended at 5 months for ages 12+ following a primary mRNA vaccine series

A third dose is recommended for all immuncompromised individuals ages 5+.

Parents/guardians required onsite for minors to receive services.
