Bishop International Airport Undergoes Major Expansion in Flint-Genesee County

While travelers at Flint’s Bishop International Airport already benefit from the lowest average flight prices in the state, there will soon be more to love about this regional airport.

Bishop has undergone over $52.2 million in expansion and renovation projects since 2009 including de-icing pads, taxiway improvements, concession expansion and intermodal freight improvements that included a cargo ramp.

The latest $13.9 million terminal and gate expansion project will double passenger capacity. In addition to Bishop’s current nine gates, four more gates will be added. The TSA area will also be expanded, reducing wait time for passenger screenings.

Airport Director, Jim Rice explains that the recent purchase of AirTran by Southwest Airlines “will offer customers more low-fare destinations as we expand our network and diversify into new markets.”
