Be a Tourist in Your Hometown returns with over 20 attractions and restaurants
(Flint, Mich., 4/7/2025) – On May 10, 2025, Genesee County residents can discover popular attractions, new ventures, and hidden gems right in their backyard with Be a Tourist in Your Hometown. The event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is free to the public and allows locals access to several area attractions and beautiful places, including the Flint Children’s Museum, Whaley Historic House Museum, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
“This year, we are hosting our flagship event on May 10 to cap off National Travel & Tourism Week and kick off the festival and events season in Flint & Genesee,” says Amari Steward, executive director of Explore Flint & Genesee, a division of the Flint & Genesee Group. “This is a week where our destination, among many others, highlights all the reasons why we are a great place to visit. We want to show that spirit to our residents, as well!”
During the event, participants will get a Be a Tourist Passport and wristband, which will grant them access to participating attractions. With generous support from the Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) Flint, three bus routes will take attendees to and from attractions departing from Brush Park in downtown Flint.
Additionally, local downtown restaurants will provide discounts and specials for tourists during the day. Some participating restaurants include Churchill’s Food & Spirits, Hoffman’s Deco Deli, Soriano’s Mexican Kitchen, and XOLO Flint.
“There are so many unique places to take your friends, family, and out-of-town guests in Flint & Genesee,” says Steward. “Come out and discover what’s in your hometown! You’re sure to find something you love.”
Day-of registration is available at Brush Park and the Sloan Museum of Discovery in the Flint Cultural Center. Although the event is free to attend, pre-registration is encouraged at ExploreFlintandGenesee.org/BAT.
Free parking will be available downtown Flint on the street, in the Rutherford Parking Ramp, and at most attraction locations.
