(FLINT, MICHIGAN – October 1, 2014) The I-69 Thumb Region is launching a new website to tout the benefits of the region, which includes Shiawassee, Lapeer, Genesee and St. Clair, Tuscola, Huron and Sanilac counties. The website will highlight features of the region and ultimately provide a roadmap to growth and prosperity in the region.
A center piece of the site will be ACCELERATE: A Plan for Regional Prosperity. The plan, which is slated for completion in November, will provide a guide to foster economic growth and increased employment, while promoting a high quality of life throughout the region.
According to Janice Karcher, Vice President of Economic Development for the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce the website will serve as a focal point for the many projects and collaborative efforts that will make the region more attractive to those looking for a desirable place to live, visit and locate businesses.
“Our combined assets as a region are tremendous,” said Karcher. “We are collectively working to drive prosperity and growth through aligning resources and promoting what makes our communities great. As part of the State of Michigan’s regional reconfiguration, this new region is primed for job creation, growth and vitality. This new website will serve as the place to communicate our drive toward prosperity.”
The ACCELERATE planning process is made possible through a Regional Prosperity Initiative grant from the State of Michigan and a U.S. Economic Development Agency (EDA) Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) grant. The initiative engages community and business leaders, local economic development organizations and governments to develop a plan that will focus on growth through promoting a high quality of life highlighting regional amenities. The plan will also help to create more vibrant communities, regional collaboration, jobs and a healthy environment.
